04.07.2007 - Freight flows through Paldiski South Port on decline this year.

The South Port of Paldiski that belongs to the state-owned Tallinna Sadam
(Port of Tallinn) handled in the first half of this year 2.523 million tons of freight, down by 7.7 percent from the same period a year ago.

The main reason for the decline was a year-on-year drop of 16.4 percent in liquid cargoes that made up 1.405 million tons in the January-June period, data by Tallinna Sadam show. Liquid cargoes are handled in Paldiski by Alexela Terminal.

Rolling stock handling meanwhile increased by 12.9 percent to 571,800 tons and dry bulk cargoes, by 10.2 percent to 483,300 tons.

Goods in transit made up more than 1.637 million tons of the port's six-month freight turnover, Estonian exports formed 543,000 tons and imports 343,300 tons.
