TALLINN, 10 September, BNS - The stevedore company Esteve Terminal AS operating in the Paldiski South Harbour started to use in August two quays completed this year.

The company uses the quays number eight and nine with the line length of respectively 160.1 metres and 247.5 metres, and with the depth of 13 metres. Esteve Terminal announced that the maximum draught of vessels allowed is 12.6 metres.

The total area of the quays is three hectares, of which Esteve Terminal uses the storage areas of 1.3 hectares in the immediate rear of the quay line.

Two railway branch lines and crane ways were built on the quay number eight and the company installed two portal cranes there in September.

AS Tallinna Sadam ordered the quays and they were constructed by AS Nordecon International. Their construction cost amounted to 316 million kroons.

It is explained in the announcement made by the company that as a result of the entry into service of the quays the zoning of the groups of goods transiting the harbour will be possible – at the latest by May 2010 the handling of solid bulk goods and goods in break bulk shall be completely transferred to the Western part of the harbour, whereas handling of ro-ro goods and passenger cars shall continue in the Eastern part.

Entry into service of the quays improves the ability of Esteve Terminal to store and load big lots of solid bulk goods on vessels of up to 45,000 tons of cargo capacity, stated the company.

Esteve Terminal is a company belonging to the Baltic Maritime Logistics Group AS, which sales revenue amounted to 145.2 million kroons in 2008, and the volume of the goods handled to 1.93 million tons.
